Amazing place. So peaceful and beautiful and serene. If you are in the area I highly recommend that you spend at least half a day wandering around here. Amazing.
So much to see and not enough time. The forest trail up the mountain felt like a real adventure, would recommend good footwear as some surfaces were slippery. Also some great spots along the way to get decent pictures.
Another highlight of Kyoto - the bamboo grove of Arashiyama. It is not a natural forest, but a forest where bamboo is farmed. Still a great place to visit. The tall bamboo trees transport you to a magical place. Try to be as early as possible to beat the crowds, trying to get the perfect photograph.
Beautiful Bamboo forest and funny furry monkeys what more could you ask for
It is a great forest with a lot to do. You can wear your kimono and walk around comfortably as you can take nice pictures
It's a fair distance from the center of Kyoto: whether you go by train, bus, bicycle or taxi, you're generally looking at about a 30-minute trip. Still, it's worth it for the number of great sights here.
The bamboo grove itself is a pretty short pathway, full of people posing for pictures for the gram. It was far from an authentic peaceful experience. The other walk ways are much more pleasant and it's right next to a beautiful temple. You could easily spend a few hours in the area. This is 30 mins from central Kyoto.
This is a beautiful bamboo forest conveniently located in the historic Arashiyama area so it usually gets really crowded throughout the day. If you want to get a photo without people you really need to get there by around 5:30 a.m. once the first trains start arriving at the nearby stations, this beautiful scene is quickly filled with tourists.
Bit of a rough hike but the view and experience are worth it. It's mostly ramps, so it's decently accessible (there are some stretches with stairs), but it's pretty steep from the get-go. There's not too many beverage spots so definitely bring water or whatever you need to refresh yourself. Gets very scenic near the top with plenty of room to cool down and there are lots of rest spots along the way. While running into monkeys on the way up isn't impossible they tend to gather near the peak. There is plenty of monkey feed available at reasonable prices at the peak, and they have plenty of instructions on how to safely interact. The view itself from the peak is also pretty awesome.
I love arashiyama but at high seasons like autumn and spring can be super packed with tourists. Don't only just walk through bamboo forrest but try to go up to Adashino Daibutsuji temple. Along the way there there are amazing shrines and temples which will fascinate your day.
Go early. We got here at 9am n it was crowded. But the view is breath taking. The little town to buy souvenirs is cute too.
Yes it's busy and a bit out of the way, but if your in Kyoto it's a must see! It was ridiculously hot in the city but a bit cooler and more laid back out here. We almost didn't go but am glad we took the time out.The highlight is probably the monkeys at the top of the park or the bamboo, but forget trying to get a picture with the bamboo unless your there at some obscure time (crowds). That being said it's well worth seeing even with crowds. The little village is really cool to walk around too. Would suggest at least 4 hours here but you could easily spend a full day.
give two stars just for winter season. nothing to see. but pretty sure summer would be quite different
This is an amazing place for sightseeing. I was there during the red leaves season. It was full of people around even at the train station. But the scenery is absolutely beautiful. There are quite a lot of food stalls on the way to the bamboo forest but please be reminded not to eat while walking (Japanese hate that). You can also choose to get on the boat for sightseeing. Restaurants around this area is quite expensive and the queue is long. You may consider going to other areas for lunch.
Pictures make it seem like there is no one there but in essence, this forest is not really big and usually crowded with people. Still worthwhile to go of course but do not get your expectations too high up or you might be disappointed!
This is one of my best tour ever, Since i love nature. The place is cool , I was amazed by the gardens... Bamboo forest, really beautiful. The swing of the bamboos are so relaxing to the ear...
It's ok for me, dont really get it why it was so famous for photo spot. Maybe because in my country we have many similar places. But its a good to go if you like nature view.
I really love going there! It’s pretty packed in the afternoon but early in the morning is best time. It’s huge and you have beautiful surroundings too. Good to spend a morning in the area. It’s difficult to arrive, you have to take a “metro” during 1h more or less from center of Kyoto, not covered by any japanpass nor bus ticket
If your thinking about going here it's a beautiful place to see and is recommended but if you are thinking about walking or riding a bike to this place the Kyoto area do not use Google maps for directions as it will take you a way that is longer and complicated but get a map from the local bike hire and ride they way that the locals go which is through the river walk which is much easier and only one path to Arashiyama
Japanese serenity is alive here. Just walking through Arashiyama shop street is fun.
Although this place is beautiful, it's way too busy to really enjoy it. There were so many people it was hard to move at times. The scenery is gorgeous, the bamboo forest is not as exciting as I thought it would be, there are many beautiful temples but they're not very peaceful at all due to the large number of people. It's nice to see, but I wouldn't go back unless I knew there would be less people there.
Wonderful place to visit with lots of different walk ways to explore. I enjoyed walking around the well kept area for around 2 hours but I could have spent a bit longer as there were a lot of gardens and shrines in the area. It was a great adventure and I would highly recommend it
A beautiful and busy place to visit. You are surrounded by an amazing forest of bamboo and the sight is definitely a wonder to behold. A must-see if you are visiting Kyoto.
The famous bamboo grove doesn’t cease to amaze and all in all the whole area is nice. Perfect for a walk when you had enough of seeing temples and old buildings and also good for kids
Great walk through the bamboo forest just outside Kyoto. Key tip: make sure you have insect repellent as it is very humid and there are many mosquitoes around!
A great place to enjoy a bit of nature, but the trees weren’t as lush as we imagined they would be!
Recommend getting there as early as you can! We were up before the sun was just to experience it here before the mad rushes of people! Highly recommend plenty of places to walk around, not too far from Arashiyama station.
Had a great, long walk in the grove. Met a very friendly local there with his Shiba Inu named Sora!Though reminder: It is one of the most crowded places in Kyoto, especially on tourist peak seasons. You may have to go as early as you can just to avoid crowds.
A place that is stunning despite the crowds at certain times. I could explore this area for days! 🖤
Huge disappointment!! I came here in the winter and it was pretty crowded. The forest isn’t even a forest and nothing much to see unless you wanna just admire over some bamboo park. Don’t have high expectations when you come here.
NOT BIG MOUNTAIN, BUT SO CLEAN PLACE. BODYBUILDING AND TAKING PICTURES ARE GOOD. SIMPLE STATES, I DON’T WANT TO SEE POLITICS MARKS IN THE TEMPLE. WHY PEOPLE DONOT MAKE A BETTER PLACE FOR UNITY AND PEACE THERE?
Arashiyama is a beautiful area in Kyoto where you can spend a lot of time enjoying nature. The famous bamboo forrest is really hyped and almost definitely disappoint you. Try not to focus too much on that part of Arashiyama as there is so much more to see.
Beautiful bamboo Forrest with plenty of nice shops to check out in main streets, especially the dangos, many different types and they all looked really really good. But better go super early in the morning if you want to take some good photos and not too many people around.
Maybe for the very high expectations, this place is not as imagined. It's more a garden than a forest and it's not as big as thought. Quite cramped with people, it's even difficult to take a picture. By the way, the surrounding area is beautiful and worth the trip.
This is a tourist attraction and have heeps of people. A very nice place to see the maple leaves 🍁
Beyond the bamboo forest. Plenty to slowly appreciate the nature. Take it slow. These photos are a fraction of what to behold
I enjoyed the day in here. Good people, warmth, good view.
A short bus ride from downtown Kyoto, I highly recommend going out here even just for a chance to be in nature for a day.Highlights include the bamboo forest and togetsukyo bridge. The bamboo forest is really a short dirt trail cordoned off in the middle of the forest. This place can get packed as it is an excellent photo opportunity so come here early before the rush. There is a monkey park here but was not really worth the time or money but you will walk by it going from the bamboo forest to the bridge
Good but way too crowded with tourists when we got here in the afternoon. Early mornings may be the time to go to avoid the large crowds, who detract from the experience somewhat
Make sure you go on the correct side of the river! (Opposite side of the monkeys)Haha. It’s just like all the pictures you’ve seen. A must go for your Instagram post..
Such a wonderful place to escape from crowd and enjoy the greenery of nature and temples.
Very beautiful scenic regions. Can totally understand why noble families in japan in the past chose here for vacation. We went here during winter so it’s not the best time for the Mable leaves and spring blossoms but still it’s a very beautiful place.
Loved it! Got there at 7:30, it wasn’t crowded. Great views not too far away. Alot of nice places near by to eat! It’s worth a visit!
There are hundreds of authentic Kansai region street food on the main road in Arashiyama like products of sweet potato, fried patty (ミンチかつ) and Japanese croquette. The famous trial which was surrounded with bamboo forest was amazingly beautiful and not like in reality. However, it was also short, narrow and crowded all the time. Visitors might feel familiar with this place since there are lots of movies shot here.
Beautiful area with much more to offer than just the bamboo forest alone. Unless you're here really early in the morning, be prepared that it's almost impossible to get a photo without having many other visitors in your shot. Good to spend about 2 hours slowly exploring the area and going on a hike in the surroundings. No trouble finding food or souvenirs in the shops before you head off to your next destination!
WARNING the location on the map is incorrect. We walked forever and there was no bamboo forest. This is not the entrance.
Cool and interesting bamboo forest. Go there early to avoid the crowds and enjoy this place the best. It is only a very small walk through the forest about 200 m and thats its. Still worth the visit and cool places to hike around the forest.
Nice trip in Kyoto, to disconnect from the city. A lot of temples and nature.
Very popular tourist place on the outskirts of Kyoto but well worth a visit. Try going during fall when you can see autumn leave colors rivaling that of Vermont. I loved the traditional kimonos that so many visitors wore.
Awesome place to go in Kyoto. Kinda far but worth it. Try coming very early morning to avoid huge crowd. Shops surrounding this area are amazing as well.
